Roots
Roots shows many aspects of African culture. A large part of culture was loyalty and respect. The main character is herding his sheep when a jaguar comes and kills one of the sheep. He fights the jaguar off but has to tell his father what happened. He tells his father and his father is disappointed in him. He also has to do many chores for his father. It shows that respect for elders is a large part of life. An element of folklore is when they talk about the warthog. The teacher tells a story about a warthog. In the end, the warthog has a lot of courage and never gives up. The warthog is compared with the main character. These events have great importance to society because they teach people respect. It teaches people to respect others and wildlife.
